American Legion Whitehead Post taking applications for military banners

The American Legion Post 33 Auxiliary is accepting orders for military banners for Memorial Day.

HALEYVILLE - The Military Banner Program has been a great success in Haleyville, and now is the time for anyone who wants to have a banner made for their loved one to do so.

The beautiful 24x48 double-sided banners include the portraits of those who served our nation, along with their names and service information, and are hung along the street poles throughout the downtown area of the city.  They will be flying once again for Memorial Day and the Haleyville 9-1-1 Festival in June, so those who would like to have a banner made for their loved one to fly on Memorial Day will have until April 1, to get their applications in.

Pat Owsley with the American Legion Auxiliary will be at the American Legion Hall, located off of Highway 13 North every Saturday from 9-11 a.m. to take applications.  The one-time cost for the banners is $125, which include the bracket and hardware to hang the banner.  Please bring a good photograph, as well as your or your loved one's information such as years of service, branch, rank and any information you might wish to have displayed.  Double-sided yard banners are an additional $20 each, and do not come with the hardware.  For yard banners that need to be shipped, there will be an additional $10 charge to mail it locally and $20 to mail it out of the area.  There is no limit on the number of yard banners that can be ordered.

The American Legion Auxiliary is happy to announce that financial aid will be available for at least two banners during this ordering period.  Applications for financial assistance in ordering a banner will be available at the American Legion on Saturday mornings, and an Auxiliary Committee will make the final determination on the applications that will be awarded the assistance.

For more information, please call Owsley at 205-494-5021.
