DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County Commission approved the following items during their Tuesday, Nov. 12, meeting:
• Entering an agreement with Haleyville City Schools for juvenile probation officer services.
• Probate Judge Sheila Moore to attend a conference Jan. 12-15 in Birmingham, then for Moore and Probate Office clerks J.C. Pruitt and Brittany Bates to attend a conference in Prattville Jan. 15-16.
• The resignation of Brian Hayes from the Sanitation Department retroactive to Nov. 1. The county will accept applications for a slinger position in the Sanitation Department until noon Friday, Nov. 22.
• Accepted a U.S. Homeland Security Grant for $14,998 for monitors and computers for the county’s emergency operation center. The computers will be used to gather information in emergencies. There is no matching funds required for the grant.
• Acknowledged the resignation of Jacob Frost as a full-time corrections officer, which became effective Nov. 4.
• Awarded the inmate phone bid to GTL.
• Entered an agreement with ESRI for maintenance and support of software for GIS for the revenue commissioner’s office.
For the agenda submitted by the Winston County Road Department, commissioners approved the following:
• An agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation for the widening, resurfacing and striping of Gravel Pit Road from Highway 195 to Great Southern Enterprises, along with widening a turnout. The project is being completed through an industrial access grant.
• Extended the period of taking applications for the position of assistant county engineer until Thursday, Nov. 21.
• Approved the preliminary plat for The Legends at Brushy Creek phase 2 addition.
• Hired Christopher Burns for equipment operator for Distirct 1 at a starting rate of $12.31/hr. After a satisfactory six-month review, the pay rate will increase to $12.81/hr.
• Declared four tires as surplus to be sold by sealed bid auction. The tires are Americus Rugged M/T LT 235/85 R16. Bids will be accepted until 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, with the bids opened at that time, then awarded during the commisson’s Nov. 25, meeting. The tires were purchased for a truck in District II, but the truck had to also be declared surplus.
The next meeting of the Winston County Commission will be Monday, Nov. 25, at 9 a.m. in the Commission Office within the Winston County Courthouse in Double Springs.
