WCHS teams defeat Sumiton Christian

DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County High School boys and girls teams defeated Sumiton Christian Friday, Jan. 31. The ladies won easily by a score of 58-18, with the boys winning a narrow victory 47-45. Pictured above, starting from left are Brooks Bonds fighting for a rebound. Lady Jackets eliminated by Red Bay

ADDISON - The Winston County High School Lady Jackets played a tough game against Red Bay in 2A Area 13 area tournament action Monday, Feb. 3. The tournament was played at Addison High School.
The Lady Tigers defeated WCHS by only seven points, 42-35. Winston County was without Mackenzie Blackwood, who suffered a broken nose in the Friday, Jan. 31, game against Sumiton Christian. Jazzy Ergle also did not play.
Stats for the Lady Jackets included:
Olivia Wright, 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals;
Ella Moore, 1 rebound;
Madison Comeens, 2 rebounds;

Lady Bulldogs take overtime win

ADDISON - The Addison Lady Bulldogs won in overtime against Sulligent Monday, Feb. 3, in 2A Area 13 tournament play by a score of 63-58.
The Lady Blue Devils maintained the lead throughout the game, with Addison tying the game with 2:30 left in the fourth quarter at 46-46. The buzzer sounded tied at 56 all to end regulation play. It was nip-and-tuck during the four minute overtime period, with AHS coming out on top by five points.

Haleyville boys and girls area tournament action

HALEYVILLE - The Haleyville High School boys and girls teams secured area titles last week. The Lions took down Cordova and Curry, with the Lady Lions winning against Curry and Fayette. The girls hosted the subregion Monday, Feb. 10, against St. John Paul II Catholic and the boys hosted Danville on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Scores were not available by presstime.
In the Curry game, Catie Aldridge led the scoring for the ladies with 13 points, Tesley Callahan had 12, with Reagan Kutis, 10. Mae Boyles put in 5, followed by Molly Gilbert and Madison Caine with 2 apiece.

HHS boys, girls split games with Russellville

HALEYVILLE -  The Haleyville Lady Lions had a five-point lead going in the fourth quarter Thursday, Jan. 30, against Russellville.
The Lady Tigers were able to regain the lead and take a 41-37 win in the final regular season home game for HHS. Senior basketball players and cheerleaders were also recognized that night.

Phillips girls and boys runners-up in Marion County Tournament

BEAR CREEK - The Phillips Bears and She Bears both battled their way into the finals of the Marion County Basketball Tournament, held at PHS Friday, Jan. 24, but the games did not end in the hosting teams’ favor.

Meek splits with Lynn in basketball action

ARLEY - The Meek girls and Lynn boys basketball teams were victors in action Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Meek High School.
MHS girls won by a score of 45-21, with the LHS boys winning, 52-36.
Stats reported for the Lynn girls were:
Ashley Aldridge, 8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal;
Ella Brown, 5 points, 3 rebounds;
Jerica Anderson, 4 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal;
Cassidy Dodd, 3 points, 2 assists;
