Fire damages Bear Creek home

Fire departments from Bear Creek and Haleyville battle the blaze.

BEAR CREEK - Fire heavily damaged a double wide manufactured home on County Highway 166 Thursday morning, March 29. Although reports first came out that there were persons inside the residence, that turned out not to be true, noted Bear Creek Police Officer Jonathan Oliver. Responding to the blaze were Bear Creek and Haleyville fire departments, Regional Paramedical Service ambulance, Bear Creek Police and Alabama Power. Police noted the Alabama Fire Marshal would be called to investigate the cause of the blaze. Carol Sutherland, who had lived at the residence the past five years, had reportedly moved out of the residence the day before the fire, after having sold it to another person, according to a family member. Fire departments were able to contain the blaze, check for hot spots then do a walk-through of the residence, police said.
