Disney Dessert Cabaret performers freshman Brooklyn Burks, teachers Alicia Bond and Meridyth Hardin, sixth grader Anniston Wilson and first grader Lizzy Rawls (seated center) are shown here with Lynn Elementary School Principal Brad Alsup (left), band director Rodney Fike (right) and volunteer assistant band director Sharon Fike (front), who is directing the cabaret and "Willy Wonka JR".
LYNN - The newly formed Young Actors Guild at Lynn Schools will hold a Disney Dessert Cabaret next week to raise funds for their April production of “Willy Wonka JR.”
The cabaret starts at 7 p.m., Friday, March 4, in the Lynn Schools cafeteria.
Individual portions of desserts may be purchased to enjoy during the entertainment, along with coffee, tea and soft drinks. The available desserts will include pies, cakes, cheesecakes, cupcakes and cake pops.
Between acts, silent auctions, in which whole gourmet desserts will be sold, will take place. Parents and local cake makers and supermarkets are donating the desserts.
The 75-90 minute show will feature beloved songs from Disney films old and new, including “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King,” “Frozen” and “Encanto.” The songs will be sung by not only Lynn students—including many of those who brought you “Annie JR.”—but also alumni and even faculty.
“Most everybody has grown up with Disney,” said sixth grader Anniston Wilson, who played the title character in Lynn Schools’ recent production of “Annie JR.” and who will be in “Wonka,” too. “It’s going to be great for the younger kids because they know Disney songs probably better than any other songs.”
The cabaret will consist of over a dozen acts, including student solos, teacher solos, student duets and teacher-student duets, among others. At least one act will include modern dance. Additionally, the Lynn Elementary teachers report that they have a very special performance in store for the audience.
Lynn Elementary Principal Brad Alsup and his wife Magan will serve as MCs and auctioneers at the cabaret.
