BEAR CREEK - Residents of the Town of Bear Creek will have a new and more convenient location to pay their water bills when the town officially moves operations to its new town hall in just a few weeks.
Mayor Rob Taylor explained to town council members at their regular meeting Wednesday, Oct. 23, that he had met with Will Walker, North Alabama region president of BankFirst, back in the summer, when the bank announced they were closing the Bear Creek branch by Oct. 25. BankFirst and the town discussed the sale of the building to the town of Bear Creek, which is being converted into the new town hall location, Taylor added.
“They agreed to sell it to us for $100,000,” Taylor stated at the meeting.
The purchase will include the bank building, the parking lot to the right of the building, as well as the lot behind the building, the mayor further informed.
Taylor called for a motion for the town to purchase the former BankFirst building for $100,000, to convert into the new town hall and Taylor and Town Clerk Kay Wiginton to sign the loan for the building.
Council member Tom Misner made the motion, seconded by Eric Loden, with all council members voting in favor, including Loden, Misner, Adam Hyde and Chris Gillum. Council member Eric Mills was absent from the meeting.
