This year guest speaker for the banquet is Bobby Humphrey. He was born in Birmingham and spent many fall Saturdays working as a concession vendor during the University of Alabama football games at Legion Field. All-the-while, Humphrey was dreaming of playing for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

His dream came true in 1985. After piling up 7,000 total career yards at Glenn High School, he received a scholarship to the University of Alabama and became one of the top collegiate running backs in America.
The 6’2”, 190 pounds halfback set many UA football career records during his tenure there. Some included: most 100 and 200 yard games; most kicks returned; most yards returned and all-purpose yards.
He earned All-American honors during his sophomore and junior years in addition to being named to the All-SEC teams those years.

Humphrey was later named to the Alabama All-Century team of the decade in the 1980s as well. Bobby was also a candidate for the Heisman Trophy during his junior year.
In 1989, Bobby decided to enter the NFL draft. In 1989, he was drafted by the Denver Broncos. In his rookie year, Bobby became the first Bronco rookie running back in franchise history to rush for more than 1,000 yards.
In 1989, he was named AFL Confer-
ence Rookie of the Year.
The following year, he was selected to the All-Pro Team and a trip to Hawaii for the Pro-Bowl.
In 1992, he signed with the Miami Dolphins and in his first year with the Dolphins, Bobby was the team’s leading receiver. He played two seasons of a five-year NFL playing career with the Dolphins.
His life after football has been just as stellar. After retirement, he went back to the UA and finished his bachelor’s degree in social science.
In 2000, he was hired as the first head coach of the Birmingham Steeldogs Arena football team. In 2004, he was inducted into the Alabama Football Sports Hall of Fame.
Bobby is very engaged and involved with his community. He serves on many boards and speaks to youth throughout the southeast region.

He believe his message of positive goal-setting and making good decisions in life choices is the fundamental bases for success.

Bobby and his wife, Barbara, live in Birmingham. They have five children and he is currently the vice-president to business development for Bryant Bank.
