Alan "Al" Wayne Phillips was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 8, 1954. He passed away Monday, July 28, 2025 at the age of 71.
Al and his family moved from Michigan to Alabama when he was 2 years old. Al was a 1972 graduate of Phillips High School, where he lettered in several high school sports. Al was inducted into the Marion County Hall of Fame in 2009. Al married his wife of 49 years, Debra Ann Phillips, on April 16, 1971. Al worked in the mobile home business for more than 50 years to support his family.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville. His funeral will be at 12 p.m. in the chapel, with Bro. Ricky Mann and Bro. George Whitten officiating. Burial to follow in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Reggie Weems, Kenny Clark, Brian Vickery, Anthony Acker, Craig Rogers and David Denney.
Al is survived by his wife, Debra Ann Phillips; son, Jonathan Alan Phillips (wife Mandy); granddaughter, Reagan LaShae Phillips; grandson, Jonathan Dawson Phillips and sisters, Patti Phillips Webber and Vicki J. Phillips.
Al was preceded in death by his dad, Jackie Wayne Phillips and mother, Jo Ann Miller.
Al will be greatly missed as a husband, father, father-n-law, Pops, brother and friend. Big "AL" was a friend to many. He was rough around the edges, but as gentle as a giant. He loved watching his grandkids grow up and play sports and was their biggest fan. Throughout life, Al loved to play golf, amateur softball, basketball and go hunting.
