Fern Gean Hogan, 88, of Double Springs, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026 at her home.
Mrs. Hogan was born March 29, 1937, to William “Bill” Lafayette and Nora Taylor Thomas. Gean was a tax preparer and owner/operator of Piggly Wiggly in Double Springs alongside her husband. Gean wrote the Bible-based article, "Weekly Tours Through the Bible", in The Winston County Times regularly for many years, sharing her knowledge of spiritual wealth with all who read. Gean loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her family and friends (young and old), to whom her love and witness of Christ was well recognized. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, church clerk, and VBS director, where she touched the lives of countless young people with her love and sharing of the gospel at Antioch Baptist Church for many years. Gean loved God’s creation, especially her pets. In earlier years, even into her 60’s, she was a dedicated runner of 5K, 10K, and marathons, for which she received numerous trophies and awards.
Visitation will be Thursday January 15, 2026, at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs, from 6-8 p.m., where her funeral will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 11 a.m. Dr. G. Lance Hogan and Brother Randy Lee will officiate. Burial will be at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Double Springs.
Gean was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Gerald Gray Hogan; her parents, William Lafayette and Nora Taylor Thomas; two brothers, Norman and Harriel Thomas and grandson, Jesse Whiten Hogan.
Gean is survived by her son, Dr. Gerald Lance Hogan (Melanie); two grandsons, Geremiah Thadeus Hogan (Heather) and Taylor Winston Hogan (Savannah) and two great-grandchildren, Nora Taylor Hogan and Walker Jack Hogan.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Antioch Baptist Church.
