Winston County Extension offering two wellness opportunities in April

WINSTON COUNTY - Winston County residents have two exciting ways to kick‑start a healthier spring this April!
Adults 50 and older are invited to take part in the Senior Walking Program Challenge, a month‑long initiative encouraging participants to walk 30 miles in 30 days, track their progress on a provided calendar, and enjoy the benefits of daily movement.
Those who complete the challenge by returning their calendars by May 15, will be entered into a prize drawing. Calendars can be picked up at the Winston County Extension Office, located on Highway 195 South in Double Springs, or mailed to your home. Free pedometers are available, but must be picked up at the Extension Office.
Meanwhile, adults 19 and up can join the Move Alabama Wellness Walk & Talk series—five weekly Friday sessions combining community walks, nutrition lessons, recipe tastings, and fun giveaways. Sessions are offered at 9 a.m. in Arley at Hamner Memorial Park and 11 a.m. in Double Springs at Mike Gilbreath Memorial Park, running from April 10 through May 8.
This series of lessons will feature the "Eating Smart, Being Active" program. Participants are encouraged to attend all sessions to get the full experience and complete the program.
Senior Walking Program Challenge participants are encouraged to join this program, as well.
This could be a fun way to complete some of the walking days during the April Senior Walking Program Challenge with other community members!
Both programs are free and designed to build healthier habits, foster community and help participants enjoy an active lifestyle this spring.
Registration is required for each event by calling the Winston County Extension Office at (205) 489‑5376.
