WCGS meeting will feature speaker on Union ancestor

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Michael E. Palmer will be speaking to the Winston County Genealogical Society Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. at the Winston County Archives in Double Springs.

Palmer will be presenting a program about his ancestor, Unionist Soldier Joseph M. Palmer, a spy for General Dodge during the Civil War. Joseph Palmer has been referenced in numerous scholarly books about unionists.

Michael Palmer is a Hamilton native and received a degree from the University of Alabama in journalism. He is employed with the Journal Record newspaper in Hamilton. One of his duties with the Journal Record is writing a historical column called Palmer’s Almanac.

Everyone is invited to come to this very important and educational meeting.

Dr. Greg Taylor, expert on DNA and genealogy, has been rescheduled for the next genealogical society meeting on August 21.
