LYNN - The Town of Lynn has applied for a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters grant to help with firefighting suits, Mayor Jeff Stokes explained at the regular town meeting on Monday, Oct. 15.
“It won’t cost us anything, unless we do get the grant,” Stokes said. “We applied for 12 suits.”
The grant cannot be applied for every year, Stokes mentioned as the reason 12 suits were applied for. The last time the grant was applied for was 2003.
“Our part, if we get the grant, will be half of what one suit costs,” Stokes said.
“It’s five percent of whatever the total amount of the grant is,” Town Clerk Marcia Manasco explained. “It’s a five percent match.”
The grant was applied for with the assistance of JMCM Consulting, of Five Points, AL.
In other town business, it was approved to transfer $5,000 to the park and recreation department to cover electric bills, along with $443 to the fire department for a propane order, repairs to the Ford Explorer, medical gloves, knee pads and dues.
Also, a payment to Robinson and Sons for fees in the amount of $2,252.91 was brought to the council and approved.
With no other business, the meeting was adjourned.
The next town meeting will be Monday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. at the old town hall.
