WINSTON COUNTY - Winston County is leading the way in new emergency communications technology once again, this time by being the first to send and receive a 9-1-1 message by text under the Alabama Next Generation Emergency Network.
The text was sent as a demonstration in the presence of local and state officials Jan. 10, at the offices of the E-911 Center in Double Springs.
E-911 Director Tim Webb, from the dispatch area, sent the text, which was received by Dispatch Supervisor Deborah Hardy, seated beside where Webb was standing.
The actual test text sent by Webb, which introduced yet another mode of technology, read “This is the first text message across the ANGEN ESiNET taking place in the same county as the first 9-1-1 call made Feb. 16, 1968.”
