Bear Creek addressing storm shelter issues

Instead of being stocked with necessary water, food and other supplies, the storage room is piled high with junk.

BEAR CREEK   -  The day after a deadly EF-4 tornado wreaked havoc in Lee County- leaving mass destruction and 23 dead in its wake - weather preparedness, or the lack of it, was the major topic for Mayor Tammie Batchelor at the Bear Creek Council’s March 4 meeting.
The community safe room, located in the basement of the Bobby Bishop Community Center, has not been updated in several years, town officials discussed at the council meeting. The safe room has  inadequate and outdate communication equipment, a lack of proper necessities and supplies, as well as some deteriorating conditions, the mayor reported.
Batchelor stressed the center was not in compliance with the requirements of a  municipal safe room.
