One fire department helps another devastated by tornado

DELMAR - The Delmar Volunteer Fire Department is accepting donations of food, water, wipes, soap and other similar items for the victims of Hamilton, Miss. The small town had much devastation Saturday night from a tornado which ripped through the area, destroying the only fire department in the community and which five fatalities occurred.

“We’re just doing what we can,” Assistant Fire Chief Micah Ouellette of Delmar said. “It just about wiped out everything they have over there. Our chief here in Delmar grew up over in that area.”

In addition to helping with the victims, the Delmar VFD is helping the Hamilton Fire Department through donations as well.

“We went through our gear to send to them,” Ouellette stated. “We just need to pull together to help our fellow countrymen.”

Donations were taken to the Delmar VFD Monday, April 15. One load will be was taken that day to the town, and if there are additional needs, the deadline will be extended.

“Here in Alabama in the Haleyville area, we know all about tornadoes, and we know how a community needs to pull together to help one another,” Ouellette said. “We’ve been through that, and we want to help out as much as we can.”
