Animal cruelty case appealed to circuit court

WINSTON COUNTY - A Haleyville man who faces charges on five counts of aggravated cruelty to animals was found guilty in Haleyville Municipal Court on April 18, of a separate charge of cruelty to animals and now faces a jury trial in Winston County Circuit Court on the county’s charges.

Deitrick Jermaine Wallace, 39, of 1207 8th Avenue, was found guilty of the Haleyville charge taken out by a resident in the area, as the case went before Municipal Judge Jonathan Lowe, noted Haleyville Court Clerk Starla Watts.

This was the only Haleyville charge Wallace faced, Watts said.

Wallace - through his attorney Jeffery Dummier - has appealed the conviction, meaning Wallace now faces a jury trial in county circuit court, the date of which has not officially been announced.
The initial incident that led to Wallace facing counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and later the Haleyville charge of cruelty to animals, dates back to 2017.
