HATTON - The Winston County Lady Yellow Jackets softball team watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 19-0 loss to Hatton on Wednesday, May 1.
Hatton scored on a double by Mallory Lane, a single by Emma Czervionke, a double by Emma Latham, a walk by Cloey Lovelady, and a home run by Ashley Berryman in the first inning.
Hatton got on the board in the first inning when Lane doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
One bright spot for Winston County was a single by Makayla Lindsey in the first inning.
Berryman was on the rubber for Hatton. She lasted five innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out seven and walking one.
Ally Blackston was in the pitcher's circle for WCHS. She allowed five hits and eight runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one. Elle Donaldson threw three and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Hatton hit two home runs on the day. Berryman went yard in the first inning. Ally Amerson had a long ball in the fifth inning.
Madison Comeens, Abby Tidwell, and Lindsey all had one hit to lead the Lady Yellow Jackets.
Latham led Hatton with three hits in four at bats. Hatton was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Katie Dawson had the most chances in the field with seven.
