DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County Board of Education met Friday morning, May 17. A list of non-renewing employees was approved at the meeting. Those teachers and employees are listed as follows:
Melissa Cleghorn, Addison Elementary School pre-K aide;
Candice Davis, Haleyville bus driver.
In other business, the board approved the retirement of David Norwood, coach and physical education teacher at Meek High School, effective June 1.
Employment was approved for Ashlyn Ishee as a science teacher at Lynn High School, effective August 1. Also, Mark Mitchell was approved as a coach for boys’ track at Winston County High School effective May 17, while Brian Wakefield was approved as varsity softball coach on the same date.
The board then approved the purchase of 22 buses from Transportation South. At the May 2, meeting, older model buses ranging from 2000 to 2014 were approved to be traded in. First National Bank has given a financing quote of 3.19 percent, which was also approved May 17. The rate is lower than the previous one.
Lastly, BBVA Compass Bank was approved to be a secondary depository of funds for the WCBOE.
“This is just something where we can entertain the idea of possibly opening a savings account on demand,” Superintendent Greg Pendley said.
