HALEYVILLE - In a special called meeting Friday, May 31, Davey Alan Reed was hired by a unanimous vote of the Haleyville Board of Education as the new principal of Haleyville High School for the 2019-2020 school year, effective June 3.
Reed, a native of Hackleburg - who most recently served as assistant principal of McAdory Middle School - was welcomed to the Haleyville City Schools family by Superintendent Dr. Holly Sutherland, Donna Jones, board president, and Chere Fetter, who has served as interim high school principal the past few months. Fetter will now return to her duties at the central office as director of instructional services.
Reed has spent nearly 30 years in some form of education, dating back to teaching from 1990-2005 at Hillcrest, Carbon Hill and Cherokee.
When Reed was not actually in the classroom, coaching on the field or serving as an administrator, he worked as the owner of Reed Construction from 2005-2017, which ironically supervised the construction of schools, so it can be said Reed knows a school system both inside and out.
Reed told the Alabamian Friday morning he was most impressed with the traditions of excellence at HCS and its community spirit, which has helped lead him back into education within a smaller community near where he graduated from high school in Hackleburg in 1985.
