IRS, Attorney General to investigate Bear Creek

BEAR CREEK  - An investigation into the Town of Bear Creek’s financial situation - to be conducted by the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, Internal Revenue Service and Alabama Department of Revenue - should begin in August, Mayor Tammie Batchelor reported at the June 17, town council meeting.
“This will help resolve the issues the Town of Bear Creek is facing with getting answers to many questions that have been lingering over the town for some time now,” Batchelor pointed out.
At the May 6, council meeting, the council agreed to turn over all of its finances to the Alabama Attorney General for investigation after the town council and members of the public discussed back payments never made to the Internal Revenue Service during a previous administration which are now coming back to haunt the town.
