LYNN - The Lynn High School cheerleaders took the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s 1A state championship Saturday, Dec. 14, at Wallace State Community College, in Hanceville.
The cheerleaders began their competition journey in October with the Mid-South Regionals in Southhaven, Mississippi. They placed first in Small Varsity Non-Tumbling Division, third place in Small Game Day Non-Tumbling Division and received bids to the Nationals in both divisions.
On Nov. 14, the squad placed first in Varsity 1A Division at the AHSAA North Super Regionals in Birmingham. They received a bid there to the AHSAA State Championship.
The competitors traveled to the Southern School Championship, in Birmingham on Nov. 23, where they placed first in the Small Varsity Non-Tumbling Division, 4th place in Small/Medium Game-Day Non Tumbling Division and received a bid to Nationals in both divisions.
Lynn will be participating in the Winston County competition on Jan. 11. They will travel to Orlando to compete at the 2020 National High School Cheer Competition in Small Game Day Non-Tumbling and Small Varsity Non-Tumbling divisions in February.
“I am extremely proud of everything the girls have accomplished this year,” said Coach Andrea Gibson. “They have worked so hard the last two years preparing for competitions, expecially my juniors and seniors. All that work and dedication are finally paying off. It has been amazing. As a coach, I don’t think there is anything more rewarding than seeing your athletes achieve the success they deserve.”
Team members include: Maggie Alexander, captain; Chloe Crowe, captain; Faith Cagle, co-captain; Ronica Gordon co-captain; Amber Bridgmon, Jenny Davis, Makenna Davis, Breanna Dodd, Cassidy Dodd, Audrey Duboise, Alandis McDaniel and Kara Williams. Coaches are Andrea Gibson and Lorri Duboise.
