Late fee waiver extended in Arley

ARLEY - Waiver of late fees and cutoffs has been extended once again for those receiving water from Arley.
The new date is July 7, according to an announcement made during the Arley Town Council meeting Monday, May 4. No late fees or cutoffs will occur until July 7, giving customers relief due to COVID-19. The motion was made by Devin Guthrie and seconded by Bob Williams.
“Due to hard times and the lack of work...I think we ought to wait a couple of months,” Mayor Chris Tyree said. “Right now, things are not better than they were a month ago, so I say we wait (on late fees).”
In other business, the addition of playground equipment at Hamner Park, a project undertaken by the Arley Women’s Club, was approved by the town council with Jerry Goodwin making the motion and Guthrie seconding. The AWC has received monies for all the equipment in phase one and was seeking the council’s approval to continue with purchasing the equipment in phase one. The grant the AWC is applying for will be for phase two.
The playground equipment will be ordered by the town, with the club reimbursing. The town will also help install the equipment. The total amount for phase one is $14,298.64.
