ADDISON - The Winston County Lady Yellow Jackets traveled to Addison to take on their arch rival Thursday, March 11. The Lady Dawgs got one more hit than the Lady Jackets, but that didn’t translate into enough runs, and Winston County came out the 4-2 winner.
WCHS got the runs started after Emily Holt hit a fly ball and reached base on error, allowing Izzy Cofer time to score. Holt later advanced to third on an error, and Madison Comeens doubled on a pop fly, allowing Holt to cross home plate for the 2-0 lead. Holt would score again in the top of the fifth to increase the Lady Jackets’ lead to 3-0.
In the top of the sixth inning, Makayla Lindsey got on base with a fly ball, then advanced to second on an error. Kaygen Grace singled on a line drive to the shortstop, and Lindsey scored, making it 4-0, Winston County.
The Lady Dawgs go on the board in the bottom of the inning, courtesy of a run by Saige Carter. Anna Luker doubled in the bottom of the seventh, then crossed home plate after Dacey Baker doubled on a hard ground ball, but it wasn’t enough, and the Lady Jackets won 4-2.
Ally Blackston took the win for Winston County. She went the full seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out six.
Luker took the loss for Addison. She surrendered four runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking none.
The Lady Dawgs scattered seven hits in the game. Both Anna Luker and Lexie Luker collected multiple hits for Addison.
Holt went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Winston County in hits.
