Pickens County blows past Meek 44-13

ARLEY   - It rained during the first half of play,  but the Meek Tigers were under a storm warning, as the Pickens County Tornadoes blew into town leaving scattered Tigers in their wake 44-13 Friday night, Oct. 11.
The Meek Tigers faced a whirlwind of a defense Friday night, at the mercy of the  Tornadoes, that dominated the ball game with a wall of size and quickness in the regional matchup.

HANCEVILLE - Pickens County was able to withstand a scoring barrage by Meek due Payton Key and Caleb Aaron last Tuesday night to win 85-60 and advance to the northwest regional semifinals in Hanceville. Key finished the game with 35 points, while Aaron added 18, as the two career 1,000-point accounted for 53 of Meek’s 60 points. The Tornadoes would use a stingy full-court press, however, to pull away and win comfortably.

REFORM - They say defense wins championships.  If that’s the case, then the Pickens County Tornadoes have a great chance at making an appearance in their third straight state title game and their fourth in six years.  The Tornadoes defeated Lynn 61-16 in a 1A Region 6 contest. The first quarter of action only saw one score claimed by the Pickens County defense when Lynn fumble was picked up and returned for 35 yards for a touchdown.  After a failed extra point, the Tornadoes claimed an early 6-0 lead with 11:02 to play in the opening quarter.
