Swayback Bridge to be closed July 30-31 for repairs


A temporary steel plate has been placed over a 12-inch diameter hole that has formed on Swayback Bridge between Arley and Helicon. The bridge will be closed to traffic beginning July 30, through at least July 31, for repairs.

Veterans memorial for Helicon back on track

HELICON - Just over two years after plans for a monument honoring veterans was announced for the Helicon community, plans are now in full swing for its construction.

Arrest made in assault

HELICON - An Arley man has been taken into custody on assault charges after he allegedly repeatedly beat his neighbor in the head and neck area with a blunt object, resulting in serious injuries, according to the Winston County Sheriff’s Office.

Helicon, Arley and Addison fire departments form joint agreement


The new automatic aid agreement between Helicon, Arley and Addison fire departments means the three agencies must participate together in 16 hours of training per year. That training started Saturday, Feb. 22. Firefighters are using the Jaws of Life in a mock wreck at the Arley Fire station.
