Reed re-elected Alabama State Senate Majority Leader

MONTGOMERY  – The 27 Republican members of the Alabama Senate on Wednesday re-elected Greg Reed, of Jasper, to serve as the Senate Majority Leader. The unanimous election took place at a caucus meeting in Montgomery. Reed was first elected to the State Senate in 2010 and was chosen as Majority Leader in 2014 by his Republican colleagues.

AHSAA Central Board of Control approves modification of kicking game for non-varsity football competition

MONTGOMERY – The Alabama High School Athletic Association Central Board of Control has approved allowing modification of the kicking game rules for non-varsity football competition beginning this fall and approved regional sites for softball and bowling for the coming school year. The action was taken Wednesday at its annual summer meeting in Montgomery.

Hayes named 1A honoree AHSAA recipient for 2018 ‘Making a Difference’ Award

MONTGOMERY – Seven individuals who have made an impact as exemplary role models have been selected as the 2018 Making a Difference Award recipients by the Alabama High School Athletic Associationand the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association.
One recipient from each of the AHSAA’s seven classifications was chosen from nominations submitted by AHSAA member schools and other support organizations.

News of Henry's indictment shocks local officials; Henry claims innocence


Ed Henry, former interim administrator of Lakeland Community Hospital, Haleyville and chief strategy officer for the Java Medical Group, which manages Lakeland, is no longer affiliated with any of the operations of the hospital.
MONTGOMERY - Ed Henry, who was the chief strategy officer for the Java Medical Group, managing Lakeland Community Hospital as well as the now-former interium administrator for Lakeland, is no longer affiliated with any of Lakeland’s operations, after a federal indictment was handed down against him concerning health care fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering and paying and receiving kickbacks related to Medicare.
