Animals, art, and anything-goes: 4-H has something for every student

Winston County 4-Hers are busy with a variety of fun—and educational—projects. Addison 4-Hers, for example, are working on the eXtreme Birdhouse project and a photography project called the World I See/Imagine.

Three Eagle Scouts and three schools

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Three separate schools have benefited this year with three Boy Scouts earning their right to be called Eagle Scouts. The Winston Career Academy had the flag pole and the surrounding area updated by Mitchell Taylor, Winston County High School had an outdoor classroom built beside Double Springs Middle School by Hunter Fields and now Logan Lewis has completed an outdoor classroom at Double Springs Elementary School. Work on the project began in November.

Abel Spicer has so much to tell his Daddy, Nicholas Spicer, after Nicholas surprises Abel in his classroom after being overseas with the Air Force for seven months.
DOUBLE SPRINGS - Six-year-old Abel Spicer got the birthday surprise of his life Wednesday, Jan. 29, when his daddy, Nicholas, surprised him after a six-month absence serving his country in the Air Force overseas in Qatar.

New faces taking top posts at Double Springs and Meek Elementary schools


Alan Henderson, current assistant principal at Meek High School, will be moving to principal at Meek Elementary School. Heather Tucker will be moving to Double Springs Elementary School as principal from MES.
WINSTON COUNTY - When students return to school at Double Springs and Meek Elementary on Wednesday, Aug. 7, they will see new faces welcoming them.
