Bear Creek, Haleyville set council meeting times

BEAR CREEK - Bear Creek Mayor Rob Taylor has announced that their council meeting scheduled for tonight, Wednesday, January 17 at 5:30 will take place as usual  Any updates will be posted on the website weather-related this afternoon.  Taylor also  said that the Alabama Department of Transportation is working to clear the major Highway 13, but  city streets were still deemed impassable. 

COPS grant awarded to Bear Creek

BEAR CREEK - Excessive overtime costs for extra hours worked by officers with the Bear Creek Police Department will now be relieved, thanks to a $103,280 COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) Hire grant through the U.S. Department of Justice.

Bear Creek to fine those skipping municipal court

BEAR CREEK - One of the many negative, lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is people failing to show up for court, bringing financial hardships on municipalities, which wind up paying for jail accommodations when the people are arrested for missing their court dates.

Hours change at Bear Creek Senior Center

BEAR CREEK - Hours of the newly established Bear Creek Senior Center have been changed to 9 am until 1 pm, announced director Eugenia Cottongin. The center is open Monday through Friday at the Bobby Bishop Community Center. So far, 49 seniors have signed up for the program. The center provides a hot lunch, games and activities for those 60 and older.  Contact Cottongin at 205-486-4199.

Bear Creek Fall Festival to benefit Eldridge Children's Home

BEAR CREEK - The mission to provide support for the Eldridge Children’s Home is about to get a major financial boost, thanks to the second annual Fall Festival at Twin Forks Park in Bear Creek, planned for Saturday, Oct. 21.

BEAR CREEK - Plans the past several years for the town of Bear Creek to open its first senior citizen center have finally come to fruition, with those ages 60 and older urged to sign up for the program celebrating a grand opening this Friday, Sept. 29.
