Bowling will go to Montevallo


Jaycey Bowling, senior at Meek High School, signed a scholarship to the University of Montevallo, Thursday, Nov. 14. Her plans are to get a degree in graphic design and communications. Bowling has been active in track, Scholar’s Bowl at MHS and Fast Track at Wallace State Community College. She received $6,000 for an academic scholarship, and currently has a $3,000 pole vault scholarship. If she places higher this year in pole vault, she will receive more.“Montevallo is a beautiful campus, and I look forward to going there,” Bowling said. “When I met the track team, they were so nice. “Meek High School has a very many great people here, and it’s been such an honor to go to school here,” Bowling continued. “It’s just a great place to be.” “It is such an honor and a proud moment,” MHS Principal Marla Murrah said. “I’m proud for her to have this opportunity to not only further her education at Montevallo but to earn scholarship money through her talent. Congratulations to her. Bennett signs baseball scholarship with Alabama


Blake Bennett signed a baseball scholarship with the University of Alabama for the fall of 2019. A signing ceremony was conducted Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Haleyville High School gym. HALEYVILLE - Haleyville High School senior Blake Bennett made it official Wednesday, Nov. 14, by signing on the dotted line.  Bennett received a scholarship to play baseball for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
A scholarship signing ceremony was held in the HHS gymnasium  attended by a large gathering of family and friends, including his parents, Jonathan and Belinda, and brother, Brett.

 

Abussamour signs with Wallace State

HALEYVILLE - A cross country standout at Haleyville High School is continuing his athletic career at Wallace State.
Hamza Abussamour signed an athletic scholarship with Wallace State recently during a ceremony at HHS.  Abussamour was joined by his family, Wallace State cross country coaches Stan Larusky and Tony Crider, along with his high school coach Lisa Cook and HHS Athletic Director Todd McNutt for the event.  An aspect of the signing that was very special for Abussamour was his classmates coming into the conference room at HHS to support him during the signing.
