Jerry Jackson played football in the late 1950s for Coach Bubba Scott. After a stint in the military, he went to work at WJBB radio and gladly announced all the Lions football and basketball games.
Jackson was always happy to lend his support to the Haleyville sports programs and closely followed all of the high school teams in this county while working for WJBB.
After graduating from UNA, he attended Samford University for his law degree.
An avid member of the Haleyville Alumni Association, he served in several capacities over the years. In the early 1990s, he became president of the association. During his time as president, Jackson installed a complete revamp by creating the Haleyville Alumni Scholarship Foundation. The idea came to him that the alumni needed to give back to their alma mater, so the scholarship fund was created and the officers embraced the idea.
Today, the fund continues to grow and deserving students from the Haleyville High School are selected each year for this scholarship.
The Winston County Sports Hall of Fame was also another association he helped to create and support. Jackson was a vital member of this board from the inception, 21 years ago.
He passed away a year and a half ago. He is being honored in the special category for his love of sports in Winston County and his heartfelt service to the Winston County Sports Hall of Fame.
