Christmas by the Lake opens Saturday

HALEYVILLE - Haleyville Fire and Rescue is always there to respond to the needs of residents, and they are keeping that pledge when it comes to one of the city’s favorite Christmas activities.
Christmas by the Lake will open this Saturday, Dec. 5, for the 2020 season.   Christmas by the Lake is a dazzling array of tens of thousands of holiday lights and displays surrounding Haleyville’s City Lake, located just past Haleyville City Schools.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic however, this annual event will be a little different this year, organizers stated on their Facebook page.
“Due to the pandemic and restrictions we are still under, Santa’s house will not be open this year.  We will not be able to serve coffee, hot chocolate or cookies or hand out toys this year,”  organizers stated.  In order to keep Santa healthy for his big ride Christmas Eve, he is not expected to visit the attraction this year.
Another change this year is that there will be no rides given to attendees to the other side of the lake to take in the lights on the far side of City Lake.
“We are trying to follow all the restrictions the state has set out.  The six-foot social distancing rule cannot be followed on the rides,”  organizers said.

Attendees will be allowed to park and walk through the lighted display or to drive through and view the gorgeous lights.

Christmas by the Lake will be open through Christmas night, Friday, Dec. 25.  Hours will be Sunday-Thursday, 6-9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 6-10 p.m.
One added bonus this year is that Christmas by the Lake will be open one week extra.  The early opening date was planned to coincide with the Christmas in the City festival planned for Saturday.  This should give everyone ample opportunity to come out and see all the hard work Haleyville’s firefighters and volunteers have put in to making Christmas by the Lake so beautiful.
Haleyville Fire and Rescue gladly accepts donations to help make Christmas by the Lake a success.  To make a donation, look for the donation box set up at the lake or call the Haleyville Fire Department at (205) 486-2435.
