WINSTON COUNTY - Winston County will have a new commissioner for District 1.

Rutger Hyche received 1,875 votes or 53.82% of the vote in the May 24, Republican Primary to defeat incumbent commissioner Bobby Everett, according to results posted on the Alabama Secretary of State's website.  Everett received 1,062 votes for 30.48% of the vote.  Mike Bailey received 547 votes for 15.70% of the vote.

WINSTON COUNTY - The reason the primary election was moved to Tuesday, May 24, from its original June time slot, was so that the runoff election would not fall during the Independence Day holiday.

WINSTON COUNTY - When Winston and Marion County voters go to the polls Tuesday, March 3, they are going to be confronted with - depending on the party ballot they choose - a list of decisions to make regarding persons who are not running for a political office, but another important political function.

WINSTON COUNTY - The last day a person could qualify to be a political candidate for either of the major political parties for the March 3, 2020 primary elections was Friday, Nov. 8, as both candidates and voters are urged to keep in mind several important points in the coming months.

WINSTON COUNTY - State Representative Ken Johnson announced Friday, Feb. 23, that he would not be seeking re-election in the upcoming June primary election.

WINSTON COUNTY - Qualifying ended at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, for the June primary election. Those who qualified in Winston County were on the Republican ticket, with no Democrat candidates qualifying.
