BEAR CREEK - Chris Hyde has respectfully resigned from the Bear Creek Town Council, citing health concerns, leaving the council the responsibility of filling the vacancy within 60 days as required by law.
Hyde’s letter of resignation, addressed to Mayor Rob Taylor, stated his last day on the council would be Sept. 23.
The council voted in their regular meeting Monday, Oct. 3, to approve the resignation, with Alex Price making the motion, seconded by Eric Loden. All council members who were present voted in favor, including Price, Loden and and Eric Mills. Tom Misner was absent from the meeting.
The council then voted to declare Place 4 vacant, with Loden making the motion, seconded by Mills and all voting in favor.
The resignation letter noted Hyde’s decision to resign came after careful consideration.
“It is with heavy heart that I have been ordered by my doctor to step down from my position on the city council,” Hyde’s letter of resignation read.
The next several months, Hyde continued, would contain appointments with his doctor.
“And my doctor feels I will heal better without any day-to-day worries or stress,” Hyde submitted.
Hyde explained he was suffering from memory loss and headaches as complications from a heat stroke back in July.
“I have really enjoyed serving the town and its citizens over these last few years, and I hope one day to be fully recovered and back to my normal self,” Hyde wrote.
“Working for the town of Bear Creek has been a wonderful experience that has afforded me many valuable opportunities to learn and grow,” he added, “and I am very grateful to have been a part of this organization.”
Hyde also stated he would do everything within his power to minimize any inconvenience caused to anyone at the town of Bear Creek by his resignation.
