HALEYVILLE - The campus of Haleyville City Schools will soon be hustling and bustling with alumni, as plans are being announced for the 2023 alumni day festivities Saturday, June 3.
The day’s events will kick off with a parade, which will include not just alumni classes celebrating reunions, but also first responders from across the area and state since alumni day coincides with the city’s 9-1-1 Festival, which honors first responders.
Parade line-up will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Haleyville Elementary School, located on 20th Street.
Grand marshals for this year’s parade past and present employees of the Haleyville Center of Technology, formerly known as the Haleyville Area Vocational Center, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
All alumni classes need to be at the elementary parking lot no later than 9:30 a.m. All first responders need to line up at the high school and center of technology parking lots across 20th Street.
The order of the parade will be Haleyville Police Chief Rodney Lewis, followed by the Haleyville Fire Department ladder truck. The Haleyville High School band, directed by Assistant Band Director Judd Williams, will join the parade just behind the ladder truck, as the parade travels along 20th Street past First Baptist Church.
After the band will be the grand marshals followed by class reunion floats. All first responders will join the parade after the last alumni float has left the HCS campus.
The parade will make its usual route around the downtown area, Lewis stated.
The band will dismiss from the parade at the FBC parking lot and first responders will disband from the parade to participate in the 9-1-1 festival.
The remainder of the parade will travel back to the HCS campus, where it will disperse and the alumni luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the elementary school cafetorium.
