DOUBLE SPRINGS - Motorists are being urged to avoid the area of Highway 278 a quarter mile past Mt. Carmel Church between Double Springs and Natural Bridge, Thursday morning, May 30, due to two vehicles engulfed in flames.
The driver of both a log truck as well as the driver of a car involved in the accident escaped with only minor injuries, but flames have engulfed both vehicles, confirmed Winston County Sheriff Caleb Snoddy.
Both the east and westbound lanes of Highway 278 in that area have been temporarily shut down,while crews work to extinguish the blaze, Snoddy said.
“Expect traffic delays while law enforcement and fire and rescue work the scene,” Snoddy stated.
Agencies on the scene include the Double Springs Fire Department, Double Springs Police Department and Winston County Sheriff’s Office, with the accident to be investigated by troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
The two vehicle occurred around 10:30 a.m. The log truck was not loaded when the accident occurred, officials on the scene said.
