Death of Helicon man being termed a homicide

HELICON - The death of a man in the Helicon area has been termed a homicide and is under active investigation by the Winston County Sheriff's Office, Winston County District Attorney's Office and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Around 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, the sheriff's office received a call to respond to 2192 County Road 40 in the Helicon area, where they found Justin Craig Thomas, 34, of that address deceased, noted sheriff's investigators. Winston County Deputy Coroner Don Dimond pronounced Thomas dead around 10 a.m. The case, Dimond added, is being investigated as a homicide. Thomas’ body was transported from the scene to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science, Huntsville, for further evaluation, Dimond indicated.

Investigators are seeking suspects in this active homicide investigation. Many details of the incident are not being disclosed pending the ongoing investigation, but the Alabamian will provide further details as they become available.
