New clothing closet open to those in need

HOUSTON - Residents throughout Winston County, especially on the east side, now have a new option when they find themselves down on their luck and in need of clothing.
A community clothing closet has been opened at 1020 County Road 64 in Houston.  Johnathan Cole-Bagby, who has helped create this new outreach for the area, saw a need in the community and wanted to do something about it.
“With very limited resources and a lot of elbow great, we have turned part of an old workshop into literally a closet,”  Cole-Bagby said.
Clothing for adults and children is available at the community clothing closet by appointment only.  All items are free of charge up to five items per family member.  After five items have been chosen, persons can pick out more for a small donation of volunteering time.
To shop in the free closet, the only requirements when coming is to provide a list of the number of family members who are in need of clothing, proof of address and to be receiving some sort of government assistance, such as Food Stamps.
“We hope to serve Houston, Grayson, Arley, Addison and the surrounding areas,”  Cole-Bagby said.
Cole-Bagby said that they are accepting clothing donations.
“We are always happy to accept any size, any items of clothing.  Shoes, socks, underwear, coats, jackets, etc.,”  Cole-Bagby said.  Currently, there is a great need for new socks, new underwear and children’s clothing, Cole-Bagby said.  If he doesn’t have the correct size, he said he will issue the person a voucher to a thrift store in Curry.
Donations can also be made at Houston Grocery, located on Highway 278.
For more information or to make a donation, call the closet at 256-434-8877 or 205-512-7955.
