HALEYVILLE - In one of several all-call messages to parents of Haleyville City Schools students Sunday, March 15, HCS Superintendent Dr. Holly Sutherland announced the initial plan to feed students for the first two days of what will be an extended school closure due to Coronavirus 2019.
All HCS students - regardless of their socioeconomic status - will be receiving two breakfast and two lunch meals to take home with them tomorrow afternoon, Monday, March 16. Monday will also be the last day of school until Tuesday, April 7, for HCS students. For children who are car riders and have siblings 18 and younger in the vehicle with them when they are picked up, their sibling will also be given two breakfast and two lunch meals.
Meals will also be available Monday for any other child in the community age 18 and younger from 2-4 p.m. at Haleyville High School. The meals will be distributed by school administrative team members through a drive-thru line in front of the school on a first come, first serve basis, depending on the number of children in the vehicle at the time it is in line.
As resources become available to the school system, information will be provided about additional food distribution periods.
