ADDISON - The Alabamian learned Tuesday afternoon, March 31, that a second employee at a Clayton Homes facility in Addison has tested positive for Coronavirus-19, or COVID-19.
Caitlyn Crosby, media relations manager for Clayton Homes, told the Alabamian that this second employee of Clayton Homes is employed at the same facility where another employee who tested positive for COVID-19 last week works.
"We are committed to supporting both of our team members, as well as protecting their privacy," Crosby stated. "Our thoughts are with our team members and their families at this time."
Upon learning of the new case on Monday, March 30, Clayton immediately closed the facility and sent all employees at the facility home. Clayton will provide these employees with additional paid time off during this temporary closure, which will last at least a week. At this time, a firm date of when the facility will reopen has not been determined, according to Crosby.
The first employee who tested positive had been off work since March 16, not receiving a positive test confirmation until March 24, at which time Clayton Homes shut down the facility where the employee worked and did a deep cleaning of the facility. According to Crosby, another deep cleaning of the facility will be taking place in the coming days.
Crosby stated that the home building industry has been declared an essential business by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which means it's critical for public health, public safety, economic security or national security.
"We're also being called upon by government leaders at the state level to continue providing affordable housing during these uncertain times. We are doing so with the utmost caution for the safety and health of our team members, their families and communities," Crosby said.
"We will continue to keep our Addison team informed as we learn more about the current case and make decisions regarding operations," Crosby concluded.
