BANKHEAD NATIONAL FOREST - Wild Alabama has planned a meaningful day of service for Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, Monday, Jan. 20, in the Bankhead National Forest.
As part of the Partners Against a Littered State (PALS) Adopt-a-Mile program, Wild Alabama adopted a five-mile stretch of Highway 33.
Wild Alabama invites you to honor Dr. King’s legacy through community service and environmental stewardship.
MLK Day was established as a federal holiday in 1983, and it is now celebrated as a National Day of Service, encouraging people across the country to engage in acts of service to strengthen their communities.
Volunteers should register online to receive the location of the cleanup, and then come prepared to work outdoors. All are welcome—whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or new to Wild Alabama.
Trash bags, grabbers and high-visibility safety vests will be provided. Volunteers should wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, and a brimmed hat for sun protection. Bring sunscreen and a backpack with water, snacks and personal items.
