BEAR CREEK - Optimism among Bear Creek town officials and residents that they would finally receive grant funding to repair or resurface deteriorating roads has turned into major disappointment, with the town declined the funding.

Senior Employment Program position in Arley

ARLEY - An employment opportunity is available in Arley through NACOLG's Senior Employment Program. On April 3, the Arley Town Council voted to hire “a senior aid” to work in Hamner Park through the program. The position was posted on April 18. Participants in the program must be 55 or older and have an income of not more than $18,225 for a one-person household or $24,650 for a two-person household. Eligible individuals can pick up an application at Arley Town Hall. The deadline to apply is May 1.

MUSCLE SHOALS - Local and area officials, including the Haleyville Area Chamber of Commerce, received a welcomed funding announcement on Wednesday morning, Oct. 14, from the Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments of funds totaling over $1 million to be used to help businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

ARLEY - The Town of Arley is applying for a $350,000 Community Development Block Grant through Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs with help from the North Alabama Council of Local Governments. The majority of the grant will be used to clean and paint the area’s three water tanks. One tank is located in Houston, one at Nesmith and the other on County Road 52, or Firetower Road, just north of Arley.

BEAR CREEK - Needs throughout the Town of Bear Creek, which kept coming back to water issues, were the forefront of a public hearing Thursday, June 20, gathering public input towards a $350,000 Community Development Block Grant that will be used for overall community improvements.

HALEYVILLE - The Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Haleyville have entered into a partnership with the Coach Safely Foundation. The resolution was passed at the council meeting on Sept. 4.

HALEYVILLE - Several areas in need of paving are being eyed in the industrial section of Haleyville, now that the city has learned they can apply for up to $150,000 in a revolving loan project through the Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments.
