Meek celebrates softball senior night


The Meek Lady Tigers recently celebrated their seniors. Pictured to the left are the six seniors. Front row, from left: Autumn Peek, Kari Brannon and Esther Dake. Lynn, Meek, Phillips and Winston County eliminated from regionals

Softball is over for 2019 for teams in Winston County and Phillips High School, in Marion County. Lynn, Meek and Phillips were eliminated from the west central regional tournament held in Tuscaloosa, while Winston County was eliminated from the north region tournament held in Florence. The state tournaments begin Wednesday, May 15 in Montgomery for those who advanced from regional play.

Late score knocks HHS out of area tournament

CURRY - The Haleyville Lady Lions lost the lead late in a 2-1 defeat to Curry, at Curry High School in the 4A Area 11 tournament. The game was tied at one with Curry batting in the bottom of the fifth, when Rae Ann Hall singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Curry pitchers struck out zero, while Lady Lions sat down six.
In the first inning, Curry got their offense started when Laycee Cordell singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

Lady Lions blow out Fayette County 11-5

CURRY - The Haleyville Lady Lions asserted their will over Fayette County on their way to an easy 11-5 victory Monday, April 29, in the 4A Area 11 tournament held at Curry High School. This was the second game for HHS in the tournament.
The Lady Lions got things started in the second inning. An error scored one run for the Lady Lions.
Lady Lions notched four runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught came from triples by Kaylee Riddle and Hailie Moody and a home run by Ana Aaron.

Cordova defeats Lady Lions 5-1

CURRY - The Haleyville Lady Lions watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 5-1 loss to Cordova on Monday, April 29, in the first game for them in the 4A Area 11 tournament, at Curry High School. The Lady Lions lost despite out-hitting Cordova seven to five.
Cordova scored on a single by Emma  Hyche in the second inning and a groundout by Jaqulyn Braswell in the second inning.
Cordova got things started in the first inning when Lillian Werling was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.

Winston County edges Addison 3-2 in area tournament

HATTON - Both teams were strong on the rubber Wednesday, May 1, in the 2A Area 14 tournament played at Hatton High School, but Winston County Lady Yellow Jackets softball team defeated Addison 3-2. Elle Donaldson allowed just three hits to Addison.
WCHS opened up scoring in the first inning, when Makayla Lindsey tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Donaldson toed the rubber for the Lady Jackets. She surrendered two runs on three hits over seven innings, striking out three.

Hatton shuts out WCHS ladies 16-0

HATTON - The Winston County Lady Yellow Jackets softball team watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 19-0 loss to Hatton on Wednesday, May 1.
Hatton scored on a double by Mallory Lane, a single by Emma Czervionke, a double by Emma Latham, a walk by Cloey Lovelady, and a home run by Ashley Berryman in the first inning.
Hatton got on the board in the first inning when Lane doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
One bright spot for Winston County  was a single by Makayla Lindsey in the first inning.

HATTON - Elle Donaldson threw a shutout to lead Winston County Lady Yellow Jackets  past Addison 8-0 on Thursday, May 2,  in the 2A Area 14 tournament played at Hatton High School.
Winston County got things moving in the first inning, when Makayla Lindsey singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
WCHS tallied three runs in the fifth inning. The Lady Jackets  put the pressure on, lead by a walk by Lindsey and a double by Brenna Wakefield.
A single by Anna Grace Luker in the first inning was a positive for Addison.
