HALEYVILLE - The retirement of long-time Haleyville Middle School Principal Bo Wilcoxson after over 30 years total service in education has created a vacancy that board members and administrators agree will be difficult to fill.

Haleyville Water Board raising tap, reconnect fees

HALEYVILLE - Costs for connecting water and sewer service in the City of Haleyville, as well as reconnection fees when services are discontinued for failure to pay a bill will increase effective June 1.

Beautification committee holds planning meeting

HALEYVILLE - A group of like-minded citizens planted some seeds in the form of ideas at the first meeting of the newly-formed Haleyville Area Beautification Committee, with the mission of sprucing up downtown in time for the city’s 9-1-1 festival the first weekend in June.

Nuisance ordinance now in effect

DOUBLE SPRINGS - oncerned residents have brought the issue of a nuisance property to the attention of the Double Springs Town Council the past few months, prompting the council to approve a public nuisance ordinance at its regular meeting Monday, March 9, after a public hearing filled with concerns, questions and discussion on the issue.

School systems strive to align calendars

WINSTON COUNTY - The first alignment of school calendars between Haleyville City and Winston County’s school systems in several years goes back to superintendents for each system having been transportation supervisors in the past, understanding that the county system provides buses for city school routes.

Alabama cottage food law training session set for April 14

HALEYVILLE - The Winston County Cooperative Extension Office will be sponsoring an Alabama cottage food law training class Tuesday, April 14, at 5 p.m. at The Downtown Exchange, locate at 800 20th Street in Haleyville.

Plans to beautify Haleyville growing

HALEYVILLE - The City of Haleyville and the Haleyville Area Chamber of Commerce have literally provided some seed money, to help form a gardening or beautification committee, which plans to spruce up areas of downtown, as well as the welcome signs with flowers and landscaping.

Wray new Addison school resource officer

ADDISON - A long-time veteran of law enforcement has come on board as school resource officer for Addison Schools, with a positive outlook and enthusiasm that has endeared him to students from all grade levels already.

Haleyville Public Library windows to be replaced

HALEYVILLE - Leaking and older windows that have resulted in leaks and have fallen into disrepair through the years at the downtown Haleyville Public Library, will now be replaced, after the Haleyville City Council approved $37,583 for the project at their regular meeting, Tuesday, March 3.

ARLEY - What an incredible season this has been for Winston County’s Meek Lady Tigers Basketball Team. The Lady Tiger’s have accomplished so many milestones.  
The record includes; most wins in School history, County Runner-Up, Area Champions, Sub-Region Champions, Sweet Sixteen and an appearance in the state’s Elite Eight.   
The Elite Eight match-up against Marion County was held at Wallace State Community College.  

Local students named University of South Alabama presidential scholars

The following local students were named to the president’s scholars list for the fall 2025 semester at the University of South Alabama.  The president's scholars list is limited to undergraduate students who achieve a grade point average of 4.0 during the full academic semester.
