WINSTON COUNTY - Salaries and demand for fiber optic technicians and installers are on the rise and, starting this week, rapid, no-cost training is available for these jobs at community colleges across the state.
OXFORD, MISS. - Kylie Wright, of Crane Hill, has been honored as part of the 2022-2023 class of Who's Who Among Students at the University of Mississippi, aka Ole Miss. Wright received her honor on April 14, at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts.
Wright is pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - A drop in enrollment at both Winston County High School and Double Springs Middle School means the assistant principal position at each school for the 2023-2024 school year has been eliminated.

WINSTON COUNTY - Addison and Double Springs elementary schools will soon have received 30,000 packages each of Lysol® disinfecting wipes from Frontline Impact Project® thanks to Lysol’s® Here for Healthy Schools campaign.
Each of the 60,000 packages contains 80 wipes, for a whopping total of 4,800,000 wipes, which are being shared with all county schools.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Members of the Winston County Industrial Development Authority have expressed concerns about the 800-plus acre Winston County Industrial Park site, which remains vacant, having become a dumping site for trash and debris, with overgrown vegetation and a sign that has fallen apart.

BEAR CREEK - The concept of community policing is being put into action for the Town of Bear Creek by newly installed chief Eddie Collins, who met with the mayor and council at their April 5, town council meeting to discuss new ideas and a fresh approach to law enforcement.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County Fair is returning to Double Springs after a three-year absence due to COVID, and plans are for more rides and food, all while financially assisting non-profit organizations throughout the county.
Motorists traveling on all of Double Springs main roads, which all intersect at the above area of town, will soon be passing by cameras that read license plates and enter the numbers into a state database to help law enforcement. The exact location of the cameras has not been disclosed.
DOUBLE SPRINGS - A major tool to help the Double Springs Police Department work with other agencies has been approved by the Double Springs Town Council, with the purchase of Flock Safety’s license plate-reading cameras.
