HALEYVILLE - North Alabama Dance Theatre’s Elite Diamond Dancers have been chosen to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with Spirit of America Productions. To raise funds for their trip to New York City, they will give an encore performance of their Diamond Showcase at Looney’s Amphitheater Complex, Thursday, May 25 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - A rain barrel workshop will be held Thursday, May 25, from 5-7 p.m. at the American Legion, 60 New Legion Road, Double Springs. Participants will make a rain barrel to take home. The Winston County Extension Office and the Northwest Alabama RC&D Council are sponsors of the event. Registration is required. Call the Extension Office to register at (205) 489-5376.

ARLEY - Previous attempts to see an ambulance stationed on the east side of the county having failed, a non-profit organization called the Winston County Rescue Squad is being formed to provide 24/7 ambulance service to the area.

WCHS facing major staff changes

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Major personnel changes are taking place at Winston County High School ahead of the new school year starting for students on Aug. 7, when students will see a new teacher in the auto technology department as well as new faces in the positions of head football coach and band director.

WINSTON COUNTY - The need for more funding is a constant issue for both the Winston County Sheriff’s Office, as well as volunteer fire departments, which struggle daily without updated trucks and equipment. A bill has been introduced that, if approved by the voters of Winston County, will provide much needed relief to this financial situation.

Pendley inducted into ODK

HALEYVILLE - Carlie Pendley, a native of Haleyville, was recently initiated into the University of Tennessee Southern Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. The Society welcomed 1,869 new initiates from 78 universities during April 2023.

Senior Employment Program position in Arley

ARLEY - An employment opportunity is available in Arley through NACOLG's Senior Employment Program. On April 3, the Arley Town Council voted to hire “a senior aid” to work in Hamner Park through the program. The position was posted on April 18. Participants in the program must be 55 or older and have an income of not more than $18,225 for a one-person household or $24,650 for a two-person household. Eligible individuals can pick up an application at Arley Town Hall. The deadline to apply is May 1.
