WINSTON COUNTY - Winston County has been placed under a tornado watch until 7 am by the National Weather Service. Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri reports that the Community Safe Room under the City Hall as well as all storm shelters in the city have been opened.

ARLEY - A year after the Arley Women’s Club celebrated its 50th anniversary, another 50-year event will be celebrated on Arley Day Saturday, May 20.
The pedestrian lane of the bridge in the Sipsey Picnic Area was smashed by a falling tree during the high winds of March 3. The entire bridge is unsafe for all forms of traffic. With the lower parking lot and trailhead inaccessible, the U.S. Forest Service is assessing how to proceed.
BANKHEAD NATIONAL FOREST - The fate of the nearly 90-year-old bridge in the Sipsey River Picnic Area, which has been closed since it was damaged by a wind-felled tree on March 3, will not be known for some time.
WINSTON COUNTY - The Winston County Commission has set Saturday, April 22, 2023, as County-wide Cleanup Day in coordination with County Transfer Station in Haleyville, Pace Inc. Landfill in Lynn and Hyche Landfill in Addison. Landfills will be open to the public for free from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
DOUBLE SPRINGS - The first ever Winston County Fair Queen Pageant will be held Sunday, April 23, at 3 p.m. at The Rock Family Worship Center - Smith Lake Campus on Highway 278 East in Double Springs at 3 p.m.
DOUBLE SPRINGS - On March 27, around 7 p.m., Terry Wayne "Bubba" Lewis, 40, of Double Springs was struck and killed by a vehicle on County Road 18 north of Double Springs in a rural area, noted Winston County Sheriff Caleb Snoddy.
The vehicle was driven by Christian Daniel Modas, 30, of Killen, who has been charged with murder and as of press time was in the Winston County Jail facing $1 million bond, Snoddy said.
The incident is under investigation by the sheriffs office. No further details will be given at this time.
WINSTON COUNTY - The Winston County Road Department has closed the intersection at County Road 32 and County Road 15 Monday, March 27, to replace a culvert. This portion of road will be closed until the replacement is completed. Winston County District 2 Commissioner David Cummings asks for motorists to avoid this area until the work is completed.

HALEYVILLE - As personnel adjustments are being made over the next month at Haleyville City Schools, the idea for an additional elementary assistant principal to work with the existing principals has been brought to the table for discussion.
WINSTON COUNTY - The annual Highway 13 yard sale is planned for Saturday, April 1. The yard sale will go from Natural Bridge to Delmar and will take place all day.
LAKESHORE - The Looney’s Tavern Entertainment and Cultural Center in Lakeshore is about to be rocking with live entertainment, as plans are underway to showcase the Dual Destiny Theater starting May 5-6.

HALEYVILLE - The Haleyville Water Works and Sewer Board voted at its Feb. 28 meeting to accept the low bid for a sewer relocation project that will prepare the way for the creation of a new turning lane on Highway 195 at 20th Avenue.
MURFREESBORO, TENN. - Joshua Grajewski, of Houston, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Middle Tennessee State University.
To qualify for this distinction, an undergraduate student must maintain a current semester grade-point average of 3.5 or above and earn at least 12 semester hours.
Grajewski is currently majoring in information systems.
NAUVOO - One of two intruders that forced entry into a home on Dec. 13, 2022, during a home invasion,that left one of them dead, has now been charged with murder, although he never held a weapon or assaulted anyone during the incident.

HALEYVILLE - A complaint filed by the City of Haleyville against Yogi, LLC, to permanently close the Imperial Inn has been dismissed, now that the motel has been closed and sold to new owners, who are planning a $1.8 million renovation and development of the property into efficiency apartments.
