BEAR CREEK -Chris Gillum, a veteran of the Bear Creek Town Council, has returned to begin his fourth term, filling the place 4 seat recently vacated by the resignation of Chris Hyde.

Rumors untrue

HALEYVILLE - The Alabamian has determined that rumors about the drug fentanyl having caused a poisoning at Haleyville City Schools are false, having checked with Police Chief Rodney Lewis.

Lewis explained that the police department responded to a 13-year-old experiencing a drug overdose, but the incident did not involve fentanyl, nor did the incident occur on a school campus or at any school-related activity or function.

Haleyville resident wants to start community band


Haleyville resident Jeff Underwood is hoping to start a community band in the city that would play in parades, at the Heart of Haleyville Park and other events.
HALEYVILLE - They were a symbol of pride for communities in decades past - a town band marching in parades or playing at a town square. Now, a Haleyville resident is wanting to bring back this time-honored tradition locally.

Winston FOP starting from scratch this year for Toys for Tots

WINSTON COUNTY - The Toys for Tots program is starting from scratch collecting toys for children in need this holiday season since last year’s supply has been depleted.

4-H Pig Squeal registration underway

WINSTON COUNTY - The Pig Squeal is a 4-H project in which kids aged 9-19 raise two pigs, starting Jan. 14, 2023, and then show one of them at the 4-H Pig Squeal Show and Auction on April 29, 2023. The pig will be processed before being delivered to the winning bidder. The deadline for registration is Nov. 14, 2022, and the registration fee is $150. Halloween events to be held in Arley Oct. 25

ARLEY - Children are invited to trick-or-treat at the Arley Town Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 4-6 p.m. The Arley Women’s Club’s Trunk-or-Treat will start at 5 p.m. in Hamner Park. The movie Happy Halloween, Scooby Doo! will be shown in the park at around 6:30, once it gets dark. Admission will be free and so will the popcorn. Those attending are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket and may feel free to wear a costume.

Alabama Scenic River Trail wants to expand to Winston County
