Area schools report card grades from the state released
WINSTON/MARION - The overall news is positive for area schools after the Alabama Department of Education released their annual Alabama State Report Cards for each school system in the state.
Governor Ivey awards nearly $2.5 million for emergency housing assistance
MONTGOMERY - Governor Kay Ivey has awarded nearly $2.5 million in grants to help homeless Alabamians find immediate housing and to assist others who are in danger of becoming homeless.
Bear Creek virtually debt-free

BEAR CREEK - For the first time in several years, the Town of Bear Creek is clearing out all of its past due bills and consolidating its remaining debts for a quicker pay-off, thanks to a surprise $29,000 check received from a court settlement filed against the Marion County Commission.

ARLEY - The new electronic sign in front of Meek Elementary School will not only provide information for the town of school events, but will also be a small source of income for the school.
The sign was installed in October, with bids the previous month, according to Principal Heather Tucker.
“We had started researching everything for different ones. We finally bidded out. Then we had to find money,” she mentioned.

HALEYVILLE - A 37-year-old man originally from the Leeds area, has been arrested and charged with second degree assault in connection with the shooting of a man over a domestic dispute occurring on Walker Drive at the Haleyville Housing Authority early Saturday, Dec. 15.
