LYNN - Joe Bell, who has been working part-time for the Town of Lynn, now has a permanent, full-time job, with all benefits, at the Lynn street and water departments. He was approved for hiring by the town council at their meeting on Monday, Sept. 17.

HALEYVILLE - U.S. Congressman Robert Aderholt joined Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri and officials with Kith Kitchens at the North Industrial Park, Tuesday, Sept. 18, to see first hand the product of federal funding the corporation has received through the years as part of the Smart Growth America program.
This is all that is left of a single wide manufactured home on County Road 3059 near Double Springs that was engulfed by fire Sept. 13. The remains of Kimberly Dotson, 39, of Double Springs, were found within the home.
DOUBLE SPRINGS - The remains of a Double Springs woman were found in the rubble of her single wide manufactured home after a blaze destroyed the residence Thursday night, Sept. 13.
Ashley Brooke Fields, who was found guilty of murder/felony murder after her trial ending Aug. 10, was sentenced Wednesday, Sept. 12, to 25 years in the state penitentiary. Escorting her out of the courthouse after the sentence is Attorney Michelle Mauldin of the defense team.

DELMAR- Cases of water were given by the Delmar Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4543, to Lynn, Delmar, Bear Creek, Haleyville and Craft fire departments on the evening of Sept. 10.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - A new look is coming to the tag decals on the back of vehicles for Winston County, soon to be for all of Alabama. For now though, Winston County is a pilot county, among others, for issuing the month and year on one decal to be placed on the upper right corner of tags.

HALEYVILLE - What began Thursday, Aug. 30 as a missing person’s report quickly turned into a murder scene on Aug. 31. Vicky Denise Howton, 53, was found deceased and hidden in the bedroom closet at 1630 9th Court.

HALEYVILLE - The Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Haleyville have entered into a partnership with the Coach Safely Foundation. The resolution was passed at the council meeting on Sept. 4.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County Board of Education held their first budget hearing at the regular meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 28, with anticipated revenue and budgeting expenditures staying close to the same amount.
BEAR CREEK - Allegations of misspending of funds in the Town of Bear Creek has been raised to a new level, with an active investigation now underway by the State Bureau of Investigation. The SBI has been making visits to the Bear Creek Town Hall/Water Works building, seen in photo, as part of their investigation.
