Double Springs a favorite stop for Overland bicyclists

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Southern hospitality is extended yearly by Double Springs Mayor Elmo Robinson and others toward Overland American Challenge bicyclists, it was learned at the recent town meeting on July 9.

Arts expanding in Winston County schools

DOUBLE SPRINGS - The goal of expanding art programs throughout all of the schools in Winston County has received a major boost with the announcement of two grants.

ARLEY - Arley native Caleb Johnson, author of the newly-published book Treeborne, has been on a book signing tour across the southeast since it was published by Picador Press in June, but recently came home to share his success by giving back.

Not many, though, grow up without ever seeing their father because he lives in another country, but that is what happened to Georgia Rose Evans, of Stamford, Lincolnshire, England.

Arley Women’s Club kicks off recycling program

ARLEY - The Arley Women’s Club has kicked off a multi-phase recycling program that will hopefully lead to grant funding for a countywide recycling effort.

Wreck on Highway 13 South

DELMAR - An accident is being reported at the intersection of Highway 13 South and County Road 62 near Delmar Friday, June 22, at approximately noon.  Only minor injuries are being reported by dispatchers, but traffic is blocked in both the northbound and southbound lanes.  Please choose an alternate route at this time.

Webb appointed to Alabama 9-1-1 Board

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Winston County 9-1-1 Executive Director Tim Webb has been appointed by Gov. Kay Ivey to the Alabama 9-1-1 Board, representing the Fourth Congressional District. Webb’s recommendation to fill a vacancy on the statewide board came from a group of his peers in the Alabama Association of 9-1-1 Districts, whose board of directors Webb has been a member of for six consecutive terms.
